Sometimes under an overhang, often just out in the open. You clip a lock on and head inside.",[11,26,27],{},"For an old city bike that was fine. For an e-bike the sum is different. The bike is worth more, so it's worth stealing, and it sits in the same visible spot every working day from nine to five, which is exactly the pattern a thief likes. A cable lock comes off in seconds. Even a good lock only buys minutes, and there's nobody watching a quiet company car park in the middle of the afternoon. Add a Dutch winter of rain and salt, and the bike ages faster than it should on top of everything else.",[18,29,31],{"id":30},"then-theres-the-battery","Then there's the battery",[11,33,34],{},"The e-bike is what really breaks the old setup, because now there's a battery in the mix.",[11,36,37],{},"Left outside in the cold, the battery loses range, so people bring it indoors to charge. A row of e-bike batteries charging off a cheap power strip under someone's desk is a genuine fire risk, and it's the reason a lot of building managers have quietly banned it. So the battery either sits in the cold losing range, or comes inside where nobody really wants it. The bike needs to be out of the weather, behind something locked rather than out in the open, and reachable only by the people who work there rather than anyone wandering through the car park. You don't need to pour concrete or hire a guard.
