More freedom, less hassle: Cor’s experience with bike parking in Spijkenisse

Cor from Zuidland (Netherlands) regularly uses the bike lockers at De Akkers metro station in Spijkenisse. Recently, he shared his experience with ParkMyBike and how it has transformed his daily commute.

Easier than expected

Cor first considered cycling to Spijkenisse, but he was hesitant. “I had been hesitating for a long time about cycling to Spijkenisse, it seemed like such a hassle,” he explains.

When he discovered that bike lockers were available and learned how simple they were to use, he decided to give it a try. After a few rides, he found it surprisingly easy and quickly felt comfortable using the system.

Cycling to work

Now, on weekdays with good weather, Cor cycles to De Akkers metro station in Spijkenisse and continues his journey to work in The Hague by public transport.

“The app was a bit tricky at first, but once you’ve used it a few times, it works smoothly,” he says. Over time, cycling, parking, and continuing his commute became a seamless routine.

Freedom and flexibility

What Cor values most about using the bike lockers is the independence it gives him.

“I am much less dependent on the bus connection between Spijkenisse and Zuidland.”

He notices this especially on the return journey: “I have often experienced the metro arriving at the station and then seeing the bus drive away, which is quite frustrating.”

By taking his bike, he no longer has to wait for buses, which can sometimes take half an hour, and he doesn’t have to worry about the schedule. “I can also return at, for example, 8 p.m. At the supervised bike parking, that’s only possible until 7 p.m.”

A fresh start to the day

Beyond convenience and independence, Cor also enjoys the bike ride itself. “It’s wonderful to ride early in the morning through the countryside and nature.” It gives him a refreshing start to the day, and of course, the extra exercise is an added bonus.
